Fiona Apple, Jon Brion, Aimee Mann, (anyone who plays at Largo)... Led Zeppelin, THE WHO!!!, Travis, Norah Jones, coldplay, Manic Street Preachers, Zuckerbaby, Radiohead (did I just put Zuckerbaby ahead of Radiohead? That's funny.), Badfinger, STEVIE WONDER. Favorite Movies:
Southpark - Bigger, Longer and Uncut. Hands down the best musical since... ever! -----, Field of Dreams. That James Earl Jones speech about baseball in the penultimate scene always chokes me up. Then, "Hey... Dad? Wanna have a catch?" There I totally lose it. Daddy issues. -----, Lost in Translation. The soundtrack is dope too. -----, Amelie. I just put that in here to impress girls. No - I really did like the movie. Seriously. -----, Most Coen Brothers pictures... especially The Big Lebowski. I'm so depressed that they've torn down the Hollywood Star Lanes. That was my A1 hangout when I first moved to LA. I had 4 of the top 5 scores on the "Theater of Magic" pinball machine there. (2-5, unfortunately. I never could beat the top score) And for what? To build a school? Kids need a place to bowl. They can learn anywhere!
Favorite TV Shows:
The OC. Don't bag on me for this. It's not the new 90210. It completely transcends 90210. The characters are fantastic, including the adults, and the storylines are brilliant. Who would have guessed that Luke would bag Marissa's mom??? The music is also very cool. Kudos to McG for not just filling the show with Sugar Ray tunes! I think part of it is 'cause the cast is into cool music. I see them everywhere - they're ubiquitous! I give you 3 to 1 odds I see at least three The OC cast members at The Darkness show tonight. The Darkness, btw, are the devil. Just so you know. ------, The Daily Show. Jon Stewart kills me. The writing is brilliant. And Steven Colbert is hysterical. I miss Beth Littleford (on her final episode she jacked off a Pig! OSJ!!! What's she doing now - Chip commercials?), but the show is consistently amazing. ----- South Park, Futurama, The Simpsons, Family Guy... Animated shows tend to be so much better than shows with live actors. Hell - even Duckman is worth watching. I also love Spaceghost. Zorak for President! ----- Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm. This season of Curb was awesome. But what was it - like 6 episodes? You lazy fucks! Get off your asses and entertain me! That ending, with Mel Brooks thinking that Larry would be so bad that it would finally bring The Producers to end so he could get a rest... Brilliant. As an aside, I saw the Producers at The Pantages in Hollywood with Jason Alexander and Martin Short and it was outstanding. I had second row center seats! How? The matinee people. One of my "ticket secrets." I'm not telling you my other "ticket secrets" unless you become my friend-----
Favorite Books:
The New Canadian Tax and Investment Guide. No. I haven't read that. I heard it was a best seller back in the 80's. Sorry - that reference is a little 'inside'. I tend to enjoy books that portray the current Republican regime as the evil, maniacal bastards that they are. John Dean's "Worse than Watergate" for one. But the best of the books to come out (better than even the Woodward book and the Seymour Hersh book) was "The Price of Loyalty", Ron Suskind's brilliant biography of Paul O'Neill during his time as Secretary of the Treasury. It's the strongest view inside the mindset of this administration. Insightful -and just s little disconcerting. To continue - I loved Al Franken's Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them... Long freakin' title. Very intelligent book. I also enjoyed the latest Greg Palast book, The Best Democracy Money Can Buy, and the newest Michael Moore. And now, thanks to the Patriot Act, I'm probably on some sort of FBI watchlist for having a) bought them, or b) mentioned them on this website. Actually, I bought those all books with cash instead of a credit card because yes - I'm that paranoid of the American government.
